Knitting Together:

Today I went down to Bakersfield and met up with several other knittyminded ravelry-ers. It was great!!

The genesis of the meet-up was due to KnittingSuzanne on ravelry. She's never once ever had a real-life knitting friend, so one of her 2008 New Year's goals was to meet other knitters in her town.

Mission Accomplished, thanks to ravelry!

Two other women that showed up (because of ravelry) are part of a long-time knitting group that the rest of us knew nothing about! I'm always amazed when I find pockets of knitters that have no clue they've been looked for.

Today there were 7 adults in an average town who found each other because of ravelry. Blows me away!

What blows me away even more is WHO these people are. Every one of us feels 'a passion' for what we do. We can't explain it to the uninitiated, and we can't *not* do it. Married people, single people, parents, teachers, nurses, stay-at-homes, young, old . . . there is no stereotype anymore. Two different strangers happened upon us at the coffeeshop today and stopped to say they are knitters and to ask questions about different things we all were working on. They both seemed surprised to luck into us too.

KnittingSuzanne though? She has a gift. I hope that one day I can show you pictures of some of her finished sweaters. They are absolutely stunning creations. No seriously. Stunning.

The world is small, because she knew two other people in our group today, but never knew they were knitters as well . . .

The power of ravelry.

And a BIG thanks to April for contacting everyone personally that she could find on Ravelry who lives anywhere near Bakersfield to invite them to our first meeting. We had a marvelous time. And my New Year got off to a big start. Knitters are great people to be with. And I hope to get to know April much better in the near future.
